Save the Trees

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I came across these pictures online the other day and got curious. The organization they are advertising SayTrees started in Bangalore as the city began to lose its natural beauty to an influx of corporations. They seem like a pretty cool company. These signs to raise awareness for them are definitely doing their jobs. Write a scene that features a character that would be labeled as a “tree hugger.” Or write a scene set in a world where trees are able to interact with people sentiently.

Notepad Art

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

The Omoshiro Block is probably the coolest designer memo pad I’ve seen in a long while. The creators utilize laser-cutting technology to create these notepads that leave behind a beautiful design as you use them up. As far as I’ve been able to find these nifty notepads are only available in Japan where they are produced, but maybe one day I’ll find one of my very own. For now, draw inspiration from the Omoshiro Block and write a scene where your character finds something artistic on a memo pad.

Fighting Self Doubt

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I came across this really encouraging comic on tumblr this week by Nate Swinehart. It is an issue that most creative people struggle with and I think you’ll appreciate is. Check it out. Write a scene about your character handling self doubt. Do they do it well? They might not every time but make sure they keep trying. And make sure you keep trying too. “The Plan” https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/nateswinehart/the-plan/

Designing Tombstones

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I found this link to a site with information on the symbolism found on tombstones. It’s full of interesting tidbits for those of us that love the morbid and macabre. Read up on cemetery symbolism and then design some tombstones of your own. Come up with stories of characters that end up with each tombstone. Or design a tombstone for each of your existing characters.

Beautiful Breakfasts

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

My friend posted these awesome artistic fried eggs on Tumblr, and they’re probably the coolest breakfast related art I’ve ever seen. These images are from Mexican artist Michele Baldini ongoing project entitled “The Eggs-hibit.” I am in slight disbelief that a person made these out of eggs and also might be convinced that Michele Baldini is magic. Follow the links and check out more of his egg art. Then write a scene about finding something beautiful about breakfast. Whether it is that the food is beautiful or the table or the experience or whatever, write a beautiful breakfast scene.

Modern Magic

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I found this set of gifs on Tumblr, titled Modern Male Witch Project, that was made by an artist that goes by Brenna-Ivy. Check out the links and look at the ideas that went into these pieces. I particularly love the technology one in the set as I love the idea of mixing magic and technology in stories. See if any of these pictures inspire you into a story of your own version of modern-day magic. Write a scene that explores the idea of magic in the modern world or even explores the concept of mysticism in the modern world. How have magical traditions changed with the world as it changed?

The Art In Make Up

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

This Instagram user, Jazmina Daniel, has taken her lipstick application to the level of art. Check out the link to her page for even more awesome lip looks from her. These ones were some of my favorites because of the combined artistry that went into the fingernails as well. Take a look at some more of her work on Instagram and then write a scene in which you compare a character’s make up to a piece of art. Is it as artistic as these looks here?

Sea Creature Lamps

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Once again, I’ve found some cool home-made stuff on Etsy. These lamps come in a few different designs inspired by sea creatures, but my favorites are the jellyfish. The designer sells both already made lamps and DIY kits to make your own. check out the link above to see them all. Take inspiration from these lamps and write about a creature that glows or seems to glow in a certain light.

The Joy Of Balloon Animals

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Japanese artist Masayoshi Matsumoto creates the most intricate balloon animals that I’ve ever seen. There have been times when I’ve been impressed by the creations of balloon artists but never at this level. The thing that amazes me most about these is the idea of putting this level of work into something so temporary. Balloons always deflate with time, and I think it would be so sad to watch one of these creations lose its air. Write a scene that involves the joys of balloon animals and other balloon art, whether they are this complicated or the most basic balloon creation.

The Fabric of Art

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Katanu Kay, the artist from Kenya, uses African fabrics (Kitenge) in her paintings to create unique images. You can follow her on Instagram to see more of her work. I particularly love the use of the kitenge as hair in these images. Those of you that have been following me for a while probably already know that I love art that uses multiple techniques. Find inspiration in the art Katanu Kay. Write a scene that makes use of fabric that reminds your character of your character’s home.
