Witchy Wardrobe

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I found some more crazy expensive accessories for us to all pine over on Etsy! My goodness, the money I would waste on that website if I didn’t have to eat. Keeping in my theme for the month these are some witchy items to add to your wardrobe if you feel so inclined. Check them out and let them inspire you to write a witch character. Whether she actually has magical powers like in the fantasy genre or she is a Wiccan in a less fantasy based world is up to you. How does her identity as a witch influence the way the world treats her?

Disguising Your Steps

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

My friend sent me a picture of these shoes that bootleggers used to wear that made your footprints look like cow prints. Given the right setting, they were probably very clever shoes. I really like the idea of a fashion choice being used to hide a trail. Today take inspiration from these shoes and write a scene where your character would like to erase or disguise her trail to keep from being followed. Who might be following her? How does she go about disguising or covering up her tracks?

Wearable Energy

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Scientists have once again found a way to make clothing even cooler! As you’ll see from the image below a fabric has been created that has two ways of generating energy. I’m not sure how much it costs to produce this fabric but hopefully just creating it is a step in the right direction. Write a scene that features something made out of this fabric. What have you decided to make the fabric into? What does this item get used to power? Is it something for everyday use or a special event?

Naturally Inspired

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Hungarian couple Gabriella and Adam make Leafling Bags. They are waterproof bags, with woodland inspired designs, and are made in their home studio in Budapest. With the rainy season starting here, a waterproof bag doesn’t sound like such a bad idea. Especially when they look as cool as these ones. I love the top flaps leaf inspired look. Write a scene that includes something that is made to mimic the look of something from nature like these leaf bags.

Patchwork Fashion

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I saw these patches online, and for a minute I wanted to go back to the days when I carried a backpack covered in patches. The more I look at them, the more I want to find some purpose for them. This got me thinking about the different uses for patches. So far all I can think of is scouts and soldiers add patchwork to their uniforms, right? These certainly wouldn’t fit either of those, but they’d be really cute on a hippie vest now that I think about it. Anyway, today write a scene that makes use of some kind of patches on a character’s clothing whether they’re as decorative as this, as symbolic as those of a uniform, or just pragmatic patches to hold old clothes together.

Prints From The City

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Berlin-based art collective Raubdruckerin (which translates to pirate printer) uses parts of the city to create guerilla printing presses, adding ink to manhole covers, grates, and street tiles to create utilitarian designs on t-shirts and bags. I love this idea. It’s a bit like carrying a part of your hometown with you everywhere you go. Write a scene where your character finds a way of representing her hometown in the way she dresses.

Hidden In Her Shoes

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

These shoes are probably some of the coolest things that I’ve seen someone strap to their feet. I love the concept of hiding hacker gear or honestly anything that feels spy-like inside of shoes. Take some inspiration from this hacker’s creation and write a scene that features a shoe related surprise of your own invention. What useful items would your character hide in a pair of shoes? What style of shoe would be best suited to hide the item?

Tear Aways Under Tear Aways

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’ve always loved the idea of a tear away outfit. Not necessarily in stripper way. I usually imagine it in more of a spy way. Like the character pulls away the tux in one fluid motion to reveal a new disguise beneath it as they escape into the night. Write a scene that features a tear away outfit for some reason. Whyat reason really could your character need to change so quickly.

Tech Suits

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I saw a video while I was scrolling of a robot-looking armor that someone had made and it made me wonder what else was out there in the way of robot suits. Some of these robotic “exoskeletons” are being created to assist people with disabilities, some of them are also made for combat, and some are created for construction and other utilitarian purposes. None of them are at that comic book/science fiction level that we are used to imagining but they are all stepping-stones towards those futuristic devices. Write a scene that includes some kind of technological armor or suit. What is the intended purpose for your technology in the scene? Can it be used outside it’s intended purpose?

Sporty Socks

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

The Swiss Barefoot Company created a sock that is the closest we’ve gotten to doing sports barefoot while still being safe. The creator loved to go out barefoot but often found his feet getting hurt along the way. The FYF sock is the solution that was created. These seem pretty cool if they genuinely make your feet feel as free as they advertise. Inspired by this sock’s creator, write about a character that would prefer to go everywhere barefoot.
