Poetic Form: The Chant

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’m not sure that this one can really be called a form poem in the way that our other Sunday poems have been. Those poems have much more structure and more rules. But the Chant poem doesn’t seem have specific rules. Everything I’ve seen trying to define it includes some type of repetition but there doesn’t seem to be a set refrain. Some chant poems place a full repeated line at the end of each stanza others use the same words to start each line but the lines end in different ways. The one thing that seems to be in agreement among the explanations that I found is that a chant poem is meant to be experienced outlaid rather than purely on the page. Check out some of these chant poems and then try your hand at it. Find the forms of repetition, rhythm and rhyme that you most enjoy.

Keep Dreaming Beautiful Thinkers,

The Boy In The Heart Shades
