Internet Inspiration: You Won’t Learn That At School

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

This post is a part PSA/part writing prompt today. If you’d like to skip my opinions on Sex Ed I will put a ** at the start of the actual writing prompt. For an insane amount of Americans, sex ed was never a thing. Most of the American school system either doesn’t or isn’t allowed to teach it and leaves it to parents who are often just as uneducated to teach children on this subject. There is now a pornography website that is launching a free sub-site that is dedicated to educating people on sexual health. I have pre-screened it and despite being associated with a pornographic website there is no pornography on this educational site. The most risqué images are the anatomical break down of the internal organs that link to the reproductive track which you’d be able to see at a doctor’s office. I’ve always found it ridiculous that sex ed wasn’t taught in schools and I think that this is an important resource for teens that need to understand their bodies before getting into sexual situations that could drastically effect their futures. ** Write a scene where your character gets “the birds and the bees” speech from her parents. How do they handle it? Is it awkward? Does she actually listen to them?

  1. Seeing as the new American administration cut Planned Parenting funding, it looks like our ignorance I not only going to get a lot worse but also come with a higher price tag for the future.
