From Outcast to Villain

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I got to go see Wicked last night with my sisters! It’s probably my favorite musical. So often the hero of musicals is an outcast that finds their way to acceptance or a happy ending. But as you’re probably aware Wicked is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West. *Spoilers* As she tries harder and harder to do the right thing she goes from Outcast to rebel to villain. By the end of the play there is no hope that Elphaba will gain the acceptance that she wanted from Oz at the beginning of the musical. While yes this is a dark story, I appreciate that idea that sometimes the world isn’t ready to accept an outcast as a hero. Today cast aside the idea of happily ever after and write a story shows how the world really treats its outcasts. Perhaps even tell your villain’s side of the story. Was there ever a point where she was hoping to become a hero like Elphaba once did?

Keep Dreaming Beautiful Thinkers,

The Boy In The Heart Shades
