Surprisingly Enjoyable

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

There is a cartoon called Steven Universe that I’ve seen a lot of in gif form on Tumblr. I finally decided to check it out because I liked so many of the gifs that I saw. I wasn’t surprised that I enjoyed the show itself, the gifs were like a preview into its wonderful moments. But I’ve found the musical numbers on this show surprisingly enjoyable. I didn’t really know that there were songs this frequently on the show but some of them are catchy enough to get stuck in my head. I’ve posted my favorite songs below check them out if you’d like. Write a scene in which your character finds joy in an unexpected place or finds something to more enjoyable than he anticipated.

Character’s Failings

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Witch Myth: A Yew Hollow Cozy Mystery was an quick and easy read. It’s definitely worth the dollar. Something that I love about the main character is that she reminds me that things shouldn’t always go right for our characters. She is moving back home after failing in a big city. Remember that not every venture your character takes up should be easy or successful. Write a scene that explores your own character’s failings. What does this failure set your character up for in the future?

Fed Up

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Write a poem about something that you’re fed up with. You’ve put up with this nonsense long enough and you’re not going to deal with it any more. Vent about this subject as long as it takes. Get all your frustration out onto the page.

Your Character’s Home Life

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’ve been hearing a lot online about how Sulu will have a husband and child in the new Star Trek Beyond movie. This is a big deal to the LGBTQ community because it’s still rare to get to see representations of ourselves in major motion pictures. But from a story telling stand point this has me thinking about the home lives of all these characters. The adventures of this ship are their job in the movie not their whole life. They all have something waiting for them to return. Think about the things your character leaves behind in his home life every time he goes on an adventure. Write about those things.

Color Changing Clothes

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

The Instagram link below is to a video of one of Disney’s parades. More specifically, it is a video of Sleeping Beauty’s dress changing colors like at the end of the movie when the fairies couldn’t agree what color she should wear while she danced. I have no idea how this color change is done on the dress but I love it. Take inspiration from this color changing dress and write about your character finding a piece of clothing that changes colors somehow or seems to change color depending on some outside factor.

Signs of Maturity

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I get so sick of examples of people “in love” that don’t make mature choices in their relationships. Write a poem about signs that you look for to know that a romance is healthy and mature. Do you feel comfortable expressing any given thought or emotion with the other person? Are you able to disagree or even argue without it being the end of everything? What information is it important that you know about each other?

Nature Squared

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

A Tumblr called Baku & Idea has posted a set of photos that their calling BitFlower. The images feature a perfect square of a flower or set of flowers. Write a scene set in a world where the flowers actually grow this way. What else is different about this world? Did nature always grow them this way in your world or did humans mess with nature to make this happen? If this is our doing what consequences will come of it?
