What We Think We Want

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I heard this song at karaoke a while back and really enjoyed it but recently it’s really been stuck in my head. So I figured why not share it with all of you and hope it sparks some inspiration. “Stars and the Moon” is from Songs for a New World. The singer talks about the men she’s met and what they offered her as opposed to what she thought she wanted out of life. It’s funny and a little bit sad with a combo moral of “be careful what you wish for” and “money doesn’t buy happiness.” Listen to the song and think about what your character looks for in a relationship. Make a couple of lists. One list should be what your character truly desires and would bring happiness. Another list should be the superficial things that your character things would make for a happy relationship. Write a scene that shows your character the difference between these two lists. If your character went for the superficial list first and realized it wasn’t right, is there still time to find the real happiness? Or will your character end the scene feeling sad and stuck like the singer of this song?

Keep Dreaming Beautiful Thinkers,

The Boy In The Heart Shades
