Scott Pilgrim VS The Color Re-Print

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Bryan Lee O’Malley just release the last volume of the color re-prints for the Scott Pilgrim series! Along with being printed in color this time, the books are hardcover and have added content. Each book comes with two cover options: the normal re-print cover and the Evil Ex Edition cover. I’m honestly not sure which one I want more. The Evil Ex Editions are all more expensive so if those are the ones I settle on I better start saving. Well enough about my spending habits, let’s get you guys a prompt. Write a scene where your protagonist meets your love interest’s ex. Do they hate each other instantly or can they find a way to get along? How did they meet in the first place does the love interest stay friends with exes regularly?

Welcoming Guests

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Write a poem about having guests over. Do you love playing the role of host/hostess? Or are these unwelcome guests that you’d rather be rid of fast? Is having company stressful for you even if you do like them? Can you be yourself when you have people visiting? How long can you tolerate them before you need your space back?

Watching the Press Secretary

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’ve started watching The West Wing on Netflix this week! I’m almost done with the first season and one character has quickly grown on me more so than any other, Press Secretary CJ Cregg! She is the heart of the show as I see it so far. I found a video on youtube that talks all about how awesome her character is. (There are some Spoilers in the video so if you haven’t watched the show but plan to that’s fair warning.) I don’t know much about politics, honestly shows like this are the closest I get to political. Today write a scene that features politics in your character’s world, possibly include an awesome Press Secretary in the scene.

Legal Poetry

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Think about a law that you believe in completely or one that you think is insane and should be thrown out. Really just make sure that you’re passionate about it one way or the other. Once you’ve picked out the law you care about write a poem about that argues for or against this law. Why is it just or unjust? Why do or don’t we need this law? Would you change something about the law if you could? Can you think of multiple ways to interpret the wording of this law?

Bookish Lockets

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’ve always liked the idea of lockets. Sure they just look like necklaces on the surface but they hold stories inside them. That makes it particularly fitting that these lockets are shaped like books. Just like books they can hold the most important part of a person’s history in them. Write a scene today that features a locket. Does your character have one of her own? Perhaps someone else has your character in a locket. Then again the locket could be something that your character found and has no personal link to, but tries to use it to find this other person.

Too Little, Too Late

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’ve been going to sleep earlier these days. This means missing some things that I’d usually be awake for like the text message that came in a midnight the other night. Write a poem about how changing schedules can make life more difficult. What did you enjoy about your old schedule that your new one has removed? Can you find a silver lining to the change?

Living Under The Sea

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

The underwater photography of Bruce Mozert, taken in Silver Springs, Florida between 1940s and 1970s, aren’t exactly how I picture living under the sea. Still they are a fun tribute to the state of Florida and will hopefully inspire you all. Think about a world in which life under the sea is possible and happening. Will this be a mermaid story? Or maybe a magical sunken city situation is more up your ally. Perhaps you like the science route more and would like a story set in a lab built underwater to better observe sea life. Good luck with whatever under sea adventure you choose BTs.

Defining Friendship

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Do you have a clear definition in your mind of what friendship is? What make someone more than just a pleasant acquaintance but an honest to goodness friend to you? Write out a list of all the qualities that you look for in a good friend. Use that list to write a poem about how you define friendship and the bond you share with your best friends.

Welcome to Wonderland

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Janelle Monáe’s label recently released new videos for Jidenna’s song “Classic Man” as well as Monáe’s song “Yoga” which features Jidenna. From both videos as well as Jidenna’s appearance in the “Dance Apocalyptic” video we can see that Jidenna has a very specific style about him. Like his song’s title implies his style has a strong classic influence. Watch the video and write a scene influenced the mixing of classic style with modern values.

Have Some Self Control!

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Think about the things that make you lose control. These can be positive examples like your favorite song on the radio making you sing along without realizing it. Or you could go for the negative side of things where like when someone cuts you off and you blast your horn at them instead of letting it go. Which ever version of stimuli you choose to go with write a poem about that feeling of not being in control. Is it exciting, scary, or maybe both? Can it be an addictive feeling? Do you crave a lack of control?
