Kat Dennings VS Ghosts

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I was looking up Kat Dennings gifs for fun, because when isn’t that fun, and I kept seeing ones from this movie called Suburban Gothic. So the premise is an unemployed MFA graduate goes home to live with his family and discovers that there is a ghost on his property. So he enlists the help of an awesome bartender (Kat Dennings character) and set about trying to get rid of the evil spirit. At first I only wanted to see it because of Kat Dennings but it actually looks like it could be a pretty funny movie overall. Write your own version of a ghost story. Is the ghost good or evil? How do your living character’s communicate with the ghosts?

Small Steps Toward Progress

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

We like to make big statements when we talk about changing our lives. But more often than not we don’t make major changes in one giant step. Maybe we get through a week of eating healthy or exercising. But then we see something that is just too delicious to say no. Instead of making a change in one big step try making it into small steps. Maybe the diet is easier to stay on if you just start by eating a healthier breakfast first. Write a poem about a major change as you break it down into more manageable pieces.

Murderess In A Gown

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I found this photo set of dresses on Tumblr with the caption: “You could murder a man in any of these dresses and no jury would convict you. These are man killing dresses.” I actually really liked that description of them and hence have decided that your prompt today is to pic one of them and write the murder that was committed by the wearer.

Let The Sun Rise

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Write a poem about sunrise. Is it a good thing in your life? Do you watch it and think about how beautiful it is, how beautiful the whole world is? Or does it mark the beginning of yet another long day? Is it just the world waking you up to the fact that things are exactly the same as they were the day before and exactly as they will be tomorrow? What could change the mood of your sunrise? Is it different to watch a sunrise when you’ve stayed up all night than it would be to watch if you woke up early?

Your Horoscope Isn’t Looking So Good

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

DeviantArtist Orion35 created these awesomely scary representations of the zodiac symbols. Imagine a world where your horoscope was dependant upon these creatures. I don’t think that we’d all be looking for love in our future or expecting great things in our coming work week. I think we might be praying hard that they decide to go easy on us or making sacrifices so that they grant us more prosperous days ahead. Write a world where these creatures aren’t just real but are actual concerns for your characters.

Finding Fascination in the Mundane

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Write a poem about something mundane, like doing laundry or washing dishes, as if it’s the best thing you’ve done with your day, week, or even month. (I hope you’re washing your clothes/dishes more than once a month.) Those are just two examples of course, I’m sure that you all have different mundane tasks that you do without even thinking much about them. Pick one that you know is going to be a challenge BTs. If you’re not challenging yourself, you’re getting too comfortable.

She Knows She Can Take You

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Last week Fall Out Boy released their newest album American Beauty/American Psycho. There are quite a few good songs on there; I can’t stop listening to “Uma Thurman” and “Jet Pack Blues” personally. But the title song’s video “American Beauty/American Psycho” is a pretty great place to draw inspiration. After all who doesn’t love the thought of a kick ass ballerina. In the video she is surrounded by a group of men and she beats them down with her dance moves. Write a woman who, like Fall Out Boy’s ballerina, isn’t intimidated by men and in fact knows she can take them down if she needs.

The Tragedy of Getting What You Want

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Sometimes we think we know exactly what we want but we are wrong. It isn’t until we’ve gotten this thing that we thought we wanted that we realize it doesn’t make us happy. We wake up to see that our desires aren’t as shiny as they were when we thought we couldn’t have them. Write about the sad realization that comes with getting something that you wanted only to discover it isn’t at all what you thought.
