Merry Christmas BTs!

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I hope you’re all enjoying your holidays. I have a little treat for those of you that celebrate Christmas or just enjoy the story of A Christmas Carol. It’s a reading of the story featuring Neil Gaiman! Just follow the link below. I hope you all enjoy it.

Winter Hibernation

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

As you’ve probably figured out from the lack of posts I’ve been busy with holiday stuff. So I’m calling this my official winter hibernation. Not to worry BTs, I’ll be back with more writing prompts and tips here, on my Tumblr, and on my twitter in January. I hope you all have a happy holiday season.

Written In Blood, Well Drawn In Blood Actually

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

To illustrate our increasing dependence on technology in a raw, personal way, artist Ted Lawson used a robotic printer to draw a nude self-portrait using his own blood. This has to be one of the more physically draining art projects I’ve ever seen. Check out the images and then write a scene about blood being used in a strange way.

It’s Not Just Wanting

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Write a poem about something you yearn for. I’m not talking about how your really want a snack right now. (Unless you’ve been on some kind of fast or have other extenuating circumstances, in which case I can understand yearning for something to eat there.) When I say write about yearning I’m talking about something you want so badly that it hurts you not to have it. If you’ve never had this feeling consider yourself lucky.

Do Evil Characters Think of Themselves as Evil?

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned Jonathan Coulton on this blog before or not but I know I haven’t posted about this song in particular. “Skullcrusher Mountain” is just one of JoCo’s hilariously brilliant persona songs. This one happens to be from the point of view of an evil genius bent on world domination singing to someone he has captured and fallen in love with. If you’re anything like me by the end of the song you’re thinking “Gosh I hope those two work it out.” Inspired by JoCo’s evil genius anthem, write a scene where it is clear that your villain doesn’t see what he’s doing as evil. Get into the character’s head and find his motivation.

Gender Identity

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Write a poem about what your gender means to you. Or what gender in general means to you. Are you restricted from doing something because of your gender? Is that something you actually want to do? Are you viewed in a certain way because of gender?
