Read Divergent Before It Hits Theaters

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

Divergent-series-by-Veronica-RothI finally got around to reading Veronica Roth’s Divergent series this week. I was worried that I was in for another forced love triangle. That seemed to be a trend for best selling young adult fiction for a while. Thankfully Tris, Divergent’s leading lady, has no confusion about which man she’s interested in. None of that “Team” nonsense in this series. Kudos to you V. Roth for writing a character who knows what she wants.

factionstransparent3Of course Tris’s singular love interest isn’t the only thing I appreciated in this trilogy. The story takes place in a very interesting, potential-future world that we can recognize from surviving landmarks of our present. If you’ve never been to Chicago it might be time to look up its most famous landmarks before reading. If you don’t really care about researching the windy city, don’t worry the books are still a good read. Though I have to say I was a little pissed with the switch in the format of the last book. *Spoilers* I don’t mind so much killing the lead character of a story, I’ve enjoy a few books that have done it before now. My issue was that I would have prefered all the books to be written in the switching perspective between Tris and Tobias instead of just the last. The short stories Roth wrote from Tobias’s P.O.V. to go along with the earlier story line don’t quite make up for the inconsistancy for me. Still as a whole I enjoyed the series and can’t wait to complain about how much they ruined it when the movies come out.
