Hardcore Embroidery

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

This piece of socio-political art caught my eye because it reminded of when I used to trace the lines on my hands, out of boredom, back in high school. (Also because it’s pretty badass.) Eliza Bennett embroidered her hands with multi-color thread to show the patterns formed by callouses from working frequently with your hands. She calls the work of art Woman’s Work is Never Done. In a statment found on Hi-Fructose Magazine, she spoke about how she wanted flip the associated femininity of embroidery on it’s side “to challenge the preconceived notion that ‘women’s work’ is light and easy.”
