The Art of Casting Shadows

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I love when artists branch out from traditional mediums like paint and canvas. You all already know that from my past post though. Kumi Yamashita has found an awesome way to use light and shadow in one collection. While most of the shadows shape into human profiles the cool thing is really how the shadow is cast. Yamashita mounts objects like cut out letters and numbers to walls to form cool and unpredictable silhouettes. There are actually a lot of different objects that get used but the letters are my favorites. I see a deeper message that we are made up of our thoughts and words when I look at those works specifically. There are many more interesting works on Yamashita’s website worth checking out if you love the pics I’ve posted here.
