Are Micro-Museums the Next Hot Hipster Project?

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

I’m not sure how I feel about this one: a one-room museum is an interesting concept I guess, but I’m not sure that the items that this one is curating are really art or history.  I speak of course from my personal opinion; I suppose that, given the right art degree and the actual desire to argue on behalf of something, anything can be called art.  Still, I think that ‘Museum’ as its creators call it is possibly the most hipster thing I’ve seen in a while.  Three guys join forces to put a collection of items together that they seem to find value in and call it a museum.  But is it really?

Break down the definition of a museum and we’ve got two important details: the items holding interest or importance of some kind and the proper storage, care, and exhibition of the items.  I guess the items wouldn’t be on display if they didn’t hold interest to this community of three and whoever stumbles across them and thinks “oh how nifty.” So as long as the collection is being conserved and displayed properly I guess this is indeed a museum.  My next question is, have the founders Alex Kalman, Josh Safdie, and Benny Safdie started the next hipster trend of creating micro-museums?  Or is this a small oddity only in the ever-strange city of New York?
