Check Out Flash Fiction Online

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

FFOBanner4Every so often I try to find fiction worth reading on the Internet.  It’s a more difficult task than it sounds with all the fan fiction and such that’s out there. (No disrespect to those of you that are writing it, I’m not one to judge what people put up online. It’s just not my thing.) This week I came across a sight called Flash Fiction Online.  I tend to go back and forth when it comes to flash fiction. When it’s done well it’s an excellent short break for the mind.  While not every writer has the skills to tell a full story in the span of 500 to 1,000 words, this site gives me hope.

Flash Fiction Online publishes three original stories a month and has done so since December of 2007.  All of the stories they’ve ever published are available for free in the past issues section on their website, so you can always go back to a story that you liked without worry of membership of that it might disappear when the next issue is published.  But the best part about the website to me is that you can read the first 5 lines before committing to reading the whole story.  I know it’s flash fiction so it’s not like you have to worry that a full story is going to take all day, but still, as the name implies, it’s meant to be quick.  And so it is fitting that you can preview the story to see if it can catch your attention in those first few lines.  This month’s story, “His Brother’s Bite,” did just that for me.  I’m definitely going to be coming back to this site to check out old issues and see what they’re bringing out in the next few months.
