Can’t Wait For Daft Punk’s New Album!

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

o-RANDOM-ACCESS-MEMORIES-570Daft Punk is at it again!  The band’s new album Random Access Memories will be released on May 21st and I can’t wait to hear all the new dance beats they have in store for us.  The album art features half of each mask that the dance duo wears when preforming put together as one head on a black back drop.  The album title is written in silver cursive letters in the top left corner.  This is the first of their covers to feature the band’s signature masks; most of their other albums simply feature the band name in a messy font.

Since forming in 1993 Daft Punk has become one of the most influential dance/electronic groups to date.  Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo met in 1987 and originally tried to form a band called Darlin’ with Laurent Brancowitz, now in the band Phoenix.  The group didn’t last very long before disbanding and Daft Punk formed without Brancowitz.  Their name actually came from a negative review of Darlin’ that called their music “a bunch of daft punk.”

daftpThe band had a few successful songs leading up to the release of their album Homework which features the band’s two very successful songs “Da Funk” and “Around the World.”  Daft Punk put out their most famous album Discovery a few years later in 2001.  The first track on the album, “One More Time,” became a dance hit and rose through the charts bringing Daft Punk into the mainstream.  The other stand-out song “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” became a YouTube sensation with the videos Daft Hands and Daft Bodies (the male version for anyone with a body type preference).  The song gained further fame as the back beat for the Kanye West song “Stronger.”  Their later song “Technologic” off of Human After All earned similar fame in the Daft Hands strikes back video.

LogoThose YouTube videos aren’t the band’s only film exposure.  Instead of the typical music videos that accompany the biggest hits off an album, Daft Punk made full-length films for their first two large albums.  D.A.F.T. – A story about Dogs, Androids, Firemen, and Tomatoes for the album Homework and Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystrm for the album Discovery.  Daft Punk is also the band behind the entire soundtrack of the Disney movie TRON: Legacy.  I can’t wait to see if the band has any thing similar planned to go along side Random Access Memories.  Guess I’ll just have to wait and see!
